Hi. Is google chrome of any use? Google is my search engine, and chrome seems to pop up and wants to install. Google can be annoying and I have thought of finding another search engine. But wondered about chrome.

Its just another browser Dee. I like bing for my search because it works easy and has this desk top application I really like. But okay back to chrome I don't really see any plus or negatives using it. Its just like Fire Fox or IE. These two do me well, so I don't need a third I guess.
Try it out! You can always ditch it.

i've used chrome, it seems to be a little lighter on resourses than IE or firefox although it has a couple little qwirks. my advice is to try it, see what you think of it.

I uses Chrome as my primary browser on my Mac, and Safari as my secondary browser. Not too sure about the Chrome on pc though, when i last check, quite long while ago, it is not accessible.
I think it depends on what version of jaws you running as far as if it supports Chrome or not. I love my Chrome on my mac, but Firefox will be my prefer choice on window. I'm not a fan of Bing at all.

Used it with 13 and a little with 12, so depending on what Jaws she's got it should work just fine. Its not hard to ditch if she doesn't like it.

I would love to kill bing. It pops up a lot. Use jaws 13. So is chrome like IE?

I've heard that it is not usable for the blind but I'm sure they've made updates.

it is usable for the blind. if anything it is slightly more like firefox in behavior, at least from what i've seen. Been debating on going over to it eventually for my web browser so yeah.

What are the benifits?

Post 10 by rat (star trek rules!) on Wednesday, 10-Oct-2012 17:08:23

it is extremely fast unlike the nasty bug that firefox has been showing. Pages load in a snap plus it's really well part of the google services of course. it remembers your google log in details so makes it eally easy.

Post 11 by forereel (Just posting.) on Wednesday, 10-Oct-2012 17:36:18

I don't use google services, but other than that when I was playing with it it was fast and responsive. A good browser.
Dee, it is much like IE, but you'll need to look around at the controls to get all your hot keys learned if you use these. Pressing alt and arrowing through it helps, or pressing applications key. If I used Google services like Rat I'd have it.
If you use an Android phone its going to be slick, because all your services will be handy.
Vary useable for the blind. Works great with Jaws 13 Dee.
It is secure as well if that matters.
I heard the complaints that it was not accessible and that was what made me try it. I found no such thing in my testing. Really easy.

its very fast compare to IE. Like the poster said, it works similar to Firefox. It used to be not accessible, but from the comment i gather lately, its seems to be accessible with jaws12 and above.

I'd say half and half. Opening a address line is like firefox control L instead of O, but I'd look around in there and learn it fresh. Easy.

Okay Dee. I did exactly what I suggested you do.
Here is what I think.
I am able to do general reading and such things, settings and such, but if I want to use combo boxes or send quick notes on the Zone here it gets difficult.
I had said I thought it was accessible, and that was because I only used it to read. I tried to purchase something on Amazon and find it difficult.
I'm sticking to FireFox and IE as always. I am using the Jaws 14 Beta, and when I tested it before I was using 12 and 13.
Again try it and see what you think I suppose. Not for me as a main thing, but something to play with.

Well that ends trying it. If I can't move around on the web and have trouble here with chrome, forget it. Thanks for helping out; I noticed I couldn't really get around well with chrome the little bit I tried it.

I enjoyed reading this thread, as I, too, was a bit curious about this browser. I use Firefox and NVDA, and though I like my current browser, it does have a few gliches every now and then, so was wondering about alternatives.

Cool Dee. Smile.
See what you need is a web reader. You sit her or him in your office chair and say, now tell me. Works great in the mornings when you've got a good cup of coffee and you are ready to listen to the news videos.
You say "describe that?" or "whats showing?" All you need do is share the pot of coffee, or tea. Smile.

I don't have the latest version of jaws and I cant get it to work very well. I also use nvda, but still prefer i.e when it comes to browsers. I however have to also point out that as far as in general goes, crome is much faster and more up to date it seems than i.e or firefox.

I find chrom nice because its fast, sinks my bookmarks to my phone as well. Firefox does that for me too, its kinda nice.

Didn't Chrome once have its own Screenreader? ChromeVox, wasn't it? And yes, I should jump in and try it!
